A Bear Spotted!
NEWS RELEASE/10/8/96 A spotted bear was spotted roaming around on Oddstad Blvd., Pacifica, CA, sniffing grass in front of 949 across the street from the local school. School officials were concerned over safety for school children. Authorities believe the big grizzly was looking for an old swimming friend he tried to have lunch with a few weeks ago. He had a photo with him tied around his neck. Some big guy wearing a bright red Dion-type scarf over his head. Park rangers darted the bear and reported that tag information revealed the bear was from the Yakutat area of Alaska. It remains a mystery why and how this large bear roamed so far from its home range. The bruin was relocated to Yakutat by air and attempted to jump from the plane as it passed over the Santa Rosa area. The bear was re-darted and later released unharmed near the Situk river in the woody Yakutat area. It was immediately joined by 4 other large bears that crowded around to view the photo around the grizzly's neck.
